Reservoir Commissioners records

Rivers, wells and springs providied the main sources of water for many centuries.  poor sanitation in expanding and developing towns prompted concern about water supply throughout the country in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.  Locally, the need to improve the supply of water power to the many local mills added a further incentive to act.
