Preserving and providing the historical records of Cumbria

Lake District Special Planning Board

In 1951 the Lake District was designated a National Park with the aim of preserving and enhancing the natural beauty of the area and promoting its enjoyment by the public. The Lake District Planning Board was set up as the National Park Authority in the same year. As well as its National Park duties, the Planning Board, as Local Planning Authority, had responsibility for the social and economic life of the area.
