Charities
This section includes the records of individual charities arranged by place and also annual accounts sent by charities to the Board of Charity Commissioners under the Charitable Trusts Acts, 1853 and 1855. Other bodies often had dealings with the individual charities, and these could be found in other collections, for example under local authorities and parishes. Other charities may be included in our Societies and Organisations webpage and it is worth conducting a 'free text search' in CASCAT, our online catalogue to find other material. Further information on individual charities can be found on the online register of the Charity Commission. Annual accounts for Cumberland Charities (1899-1955), Westmorland Charities (1899-1949) and Lancashire (North of the Sands) Charities (1901-1954) can be seen at Carlisle Archives (please enquire directly for further details).
